Leading the way to digital radio in Southern Africa

UCB Africa's affiliate and partner radio organization, Radio Pulpit and, is playing a prominent role in leading the way for the rollout of digital radio (Digital Radio Mondiale – medium wave and shortwave) in South Africa and Southern Africa.
A DRM Workgroup was formed in November of last year and radio stations such as Veritas, Capital Radio and LM radio are working with Radio and Cape Pulpit  to launch this exciting project.   Strong support is given to the Workgroup by the DRM consortium (UK) and Sentech (SA national signal distributor) and trial and test broadcasts are planned before the end of 2014. Radio Mozambique has also indicated keen interest in going the route of Digital Radio Mondiale and will be presenting their migration plan at the SABA convention in Cape Town 22-24 th April.   A new 25 Kw DRM Ampegon M2W transmitter was ordered by the Pulpit Group in December 2013 for this purpose and was delivered in March for installation.
