AFRICA BY RADIO PRAYER LETTER JANUARY 2009 Print E-mail
Dear Friends

Please find the prayer requests received from some of our colleagues in AbR. We hope you will forgive the poor electronic translations we offer for some of the French and Portuguese submissions but trust they will still enable us to pray about the needs that are expressed.

Hopes to have a functioning web site very soon, which will allow far more contact and sharing than has been possible before. It is intended to be a fully interactive site.

GRACE Baptist Mission

  • We had planned to run a ‘Formation de Formateurs’ (Training of Trainers in French) early this year but the French colleague who helped in 2007 (Burundi) is now not able to give the time this year. Pray that an alternative solution will be found: we are looking into other possibilities in West Africa this spring.

  • The newest of the R.E.D. radio network’s stations in Fada N’Gourma (Burkina Faso) is now operational. Further training is being planned for their personnel in the coming months.

With warm greetings in Jesus, Roger Cook.

2K+

  • Join us in thanking God for answered prayer regarding our critical financial situation at the end of 2008. We have received several large gifts and sense God's affirmation on our ministry.

  • Pray for plans to cover the Confederations Cup in South Africa in June.

This in turn will also help our plans for the FIFA World Cup™ in 2010.

  • In October we rested our weekly radio programme, Planet Sport, after three-and-a-half years. Following a review we plan to re-launch the show in March with a new interactive format linked to the Planet Sport website.

Pray for the production of the pilot show later this month and for good feedback to help us refine the programme. Pray that sports fans will be drawn to the Saviour through the dual influence of the programme and website.

  • Pray for plans to cover the World Championships in Athletics in Berlin this August. We need to arrange media accreditation, accommodation and operating facilities for two team members.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer. Every blessing for 2009 from 2K Plus International Sports Media. Adrian.

  • We praise the Lord for his protection on our teams in Goma and the rest of North Eastern Congo during the recent unrest in the region. …despite the circumstances they continue the work to get the new FM station on air. Test transmissions have been done successfully and now they are working hard to raise funds for a backup generator as the power cuts are very frequent. Pray that they will soon have their generator so they will be able to take up regular transmission.

  • Pray for one of the producers in the South Sudan team. Recently he was robbed (and assaulted) on the streets of Kampala in broad daylight ….Pray for a quick recovery for him both physically and emotionally. Also pray that the loss of money and equipment can be compensated somehow.

  • Habari Maalum College in Arusha, Tanzania has recently selected the 10 new students for the coming year’s Diploma course. Pray that the students from other countries will be granted the necessary student’s residence permit in time from the Tanzanian authorities, and that we will see a good start of the new course in the beginning of January. We thank God for the successful Basic Radio Producers course that was held in Kampala in October. Habari Maalum College trained 11 potential producers with the Pentecostal Church of Uganda (PCU) on behalf of IBRA. PCU have a vision to have regular production on a number of existing FM stations across the country of Uganda. Pray that the action plans worked out during the course will be implemented and that the work will have a good start.

  • The Ethiopian partner has been asked to produce three more 30 minutes programs. Pray for the team as they gear up for the additional production that will begin to air from the 1st of January. Pray also for IBRA and partners to be able to raise the required extra funds. In Christ, Jan-Erik Nyman.

BOTSWANA, SOUL Fm Internet Radio

Our request remains the issuance of a license. Other things are forth coming - some different forms of assistance and we thank God for that. We have however been warned that assistance in any form will be a challenge this year because of the global melt down.

Rich blessings! Mike Mafa.

BLESSINGS FOR OBEDIENCE/BIBLE VOICE BROADCASTING

  • (Our engineer) recently returned from a three-week trip to Sudan where he did repairs and upgrades on a 300-watt FM station which is broadcasting to the people who live in Sudan and nearby areas of Congo and Central African Republic. He installed a wind generator which has increased the power capability of the station which is largely powered by solar cells.

  • BFO recently sent a portable 'suitcase' FM radio station which will be used in Congo and a FM transmitter that will be used for a new station that will be built in Sudan. Prayers are needed for the ongoing work in Sudan, as terrorists have been quite active in all of the areas where we are working of late.

  • We have upgraded Restore Rwanda FM. It will soon be fully solar-powered and will have a remote link to the studio. At least seven new churches have been started as a result of the station in the past three years, PTL!

  • Dunamis Shortwave is back on the air after some problems with the transmitter, which has now been replaced. We are getting good listener reports from throughout Africa, and as far away as Finland!

  • New projects include a FM station in Singida, Tanzania. This project has been ongoing for over three years. The equipment is in Uganda and we are awaiting final license approval from the Tanzanian government.

  • We have ordered a 'suitcase' FM station which will be used in W. Africa.

  • We are in the process of getting a community license in Botswana. When the license is in hand, we will install another 'suitcase' FM station there this year, Lord willing.

Love and blessings, Kelly Coleman, President: Blessings For Obedience Ministry.

SIERRA LEONE, Believers Broadcasting Network

  • Thank God for taking us through 2008 successfully and all the numerous achievements we made as a station.

  • Pray for God's divine direction for the radio station in 2009 - that we will do what the Lord wants us to do and impact more lives positively with the gospel

  • Pray for God's supernatural provision that we will be able to raise the remaining one hundred thousand dollars for the completion of our studio building.

  • Pray that God will give us favour in the eyes of the licensing authorities as we apply for other radio frequencies this year to expand our coverage. Thanks for praying with us. Ransford.

ZAMBIA, Salvation Radio

  • We have been experiencing power and Internet problems.

  • We do not have regular financial support. We need God's wisdom as we puzzle out the sustainability issue.

  • The government has not yet come to give us permission to start broadcasting despite the many requests we have made. There is no solid reason they have given for their delay.

  • We need skills for quality production.

  • Thank you for opening this avenue of prayer for one another. Isaac.
